About the American School of Geomancy
Mission Statement
To revive the ancient arts and sciences of placemaking, such as western geomancy and feng shui, and to develop new practical applications that support spiritual, ecological land use planning; harmonious architecture; and healing our relationship with the Earth.
The original impetus for founding the American School of Geomancy (and its predecessor, the Westcoast Institute of Sacred Ecology, in 1985) was to bring people together who wanted to revive geomancy and adapt the most familiar geomantic traditions of Europe and Asia to American culture.
Method Employed to Achieve Mission
The primary method of this approach was to look beneath the rules and formulas to uncover the roots of feng shui and western geomancy:
To search for any common ground among the diverse cultural traditions;
To discover the essential underlying principles of harmonious design and placement;
To distill all the available knowledge into a set of universal principles of good design, based on the laws of Nature, and;
To create new applications of ancient wisdom for the modern world.
